Veteran India seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar will lead Sunrisers Hyderabad in its IPL (Indian Head Association) opener as assigned captain Aiden Markram is on public obligation with South Africa.
The season will begin on Friday with reigning champ Gujarat Titans taking on three-time victor Chennai Super Lords in Ahmedabad.
Sunrisers Hyderabad plays its initial match against Rajasthan Royals in Hyderabad on Sunday.
Markram is in South Africa for the two-match ODI series against Netherlands and will show up in India just on April 3. The series is imperative for South Africa’s immediate capability for the ODI World Cup, to be played in India in the not so distant future.
South Africa’s matches will be played on Walk 31 and April 2.
The 33-year-old Bhuvneshwar has been with Sunrisers since their origin in 2013, and has driven them in the past too – in six games in 2019 and once in 2022. Under him, SRH has won two matches while enduring losses in the leftover five.
SRH’s subsequent match will be against Lucknow Super Goliaths on April 7 and Markram will be back by then, at that point.
